If you write code, recursos jumps out as recursion - a function that keeps calling itself. In Spanish it is something far calmer: resources, the means and supplies you have to draw on. Recursos humanos is the HR department, not an infinite loop.
To an English eye - a programmer's especially - recursos reads as recurse or recursion. That instinct is half right: recursos really is their cousin. Spanish recurso comes from Latin recurrere, 'to run back' - the same verb behind recur, recursion, recurse and recourse. A recurso was something you could run back to for help, a sense that slid into means and then resources. The sly part is the English word that shares the meaning: resource is the odd one out, grown from a different Latin verb, resurgere, 'to rise again'. So recursos and recursion are true relatives that drifted apart in sense, while resource only happens to mean the same, from a wholly separate root.
